Attendance Checkpoints
If you have been out sick for more than 6 days this school year as of February 1, 2025, you will most likely be called in this week by your supervisor for a meeting to discuss your attendance. You do not need a union rep for this meeting. Your supervisor will show you your calendar from Wincap, discuss your absences, ask for your attendance to improve and summarize the meeting in an email.
Why is attendance important?
1. It is the number one reason why people have their position terminated if they are probationary or untenured. Attendance matters in this decision, even if you are an outstanding employee!
2. Are you an Aide wanting to become a TA? Are you looking to become a TCIS member? Your attendance is factored into the decision to select you for these roles.
3. Your sick days are your insurance policy – you never know when you may need them for your own illness, having a baby, or taking care of a family member who is sick.
4.Once you enter payroll dock (take more days than you have) you will automatically receive a counseling memo which will go in your file. The number of sick days you take and the number of counseling memos you receive in a given school year may impact your ability to work ESY. You also then lose money from your paycheck
5.Whether or not you realize it, your attendance impacts everyone who works with you, kids and staff alike. We need everyone at work to provide continuity for the kids and also to keep kids and staff safe
.6.Approximately 30% of our members reached this February checkpoint and will be spoken to by their supervisor. This is not a good look for the BTA and makes administration look even more closely at our attendance.
We can do better!
